GRASP Innovations have successfully completed the installation of a state-of-the-art queue management solution at the security checkpoint of Milano Linate Airport. This new solution enhances the passenger experience by autonomously directing travellers through the most efficient route in the queue, reducing walking distances and minimizing waiting times.
Developed in close collaboration with SEA Milan Airports’ innovation, IT and Operations teams, the system itself dynamically adapts the passenger flow in real time. The solution not only improves the passenger experience but also significantly improves performance; increasing throughput over 10%.
The system works by automatically load-balancing passengers across multiple sub-queues, combined with GRASP’s call forward system, ensuring even pressure across all security lanes.
Passengers see automatic gates and screens, which tell them where to go in the queue and to which lane for divesting.
The solution is managed by GRASP’s Data Management Platform, which provides airport staff with live KPIs, historical analytics, and automated alerts, enabling proactive interventions when needed.
“We are incredibly proud of this milestone,” said Robert Schuur, Co-founder of GRASP Innovations. “The collaboration with SEA Milan Airports was exceptional. Their openness, drive, and deep understanding of airport operations were instrumental in turning this vision into a successful reality.”
“I’m proud to see the seamless integration of smart technology, real-time data, and dynamic flow management reflecting our continued commitment to innovation and to making every journey through our airports smoother, faster, and more enjoyable.
I want to express a honest thank you to all the dedicated SEA Milan Airports colleagues, teams, and individuals who made this achievement possible through their hard work, expertise, and exceptional synergy and last, but certainly not least, their passion.” – Riccardo Piroddi, Security Manager of Milano Linate Airport.
This milestone project at Linate follows a successful initial 6 months pilot, and underlines the forward-thinking partnership between SEA and GRASP, focused on tangible results and a strong business case.
Part of the solution includes a central Queue Distribution Point (pictured), three Lane Allocation screens, and GRASP’s Data Management Platform for real-time insights and control.
